Now a days you need to be smart, creative and you need put your own unique twist on your work when choosing the right business model for your small business because if NOT you might get mislead and fail.
Look at the big corporations like banks and credit companies many people would think that since they’re a multibillion dollar business they would be all right when difficult times comes but the moment difficulties come they collapse and are begging for a bail out so is this a good business model or NOT?
Well if you ask me or in my own opinion it’s not. A successful business model will remain strong and stand firm regardless of any difficulties or regardless of the economic status. Obviously these big companies built their foundation on the sand and when a big storm came it wiped them clean.
The worst part is they don’t have any strategies or anything that’s why they’re asking for a bail out! Yeah! They might have an argument that the economy is lousy but it doesn’t matter if you build the foundation of your business on solid ground it will stand tall even in tough times.
Guys I’m not saying I’m all that but while the news is so terribly negative, all these nonstop job losses, foreclosures and bailouts I am doing really great as you can see on my last 2 blog post I took my family for little vacation and business is doing great.
As a matter of fact while I’m writing this I can hear in the background that I just made a sale (I setup my MS Outlook to make a TADA! sound when there’s a sales)

But you know what I am not surprised at all because I model my business after a rock solid foundation and I will tell you a “True To Life Story” of my Dad being my mentor in business and life in general. I talk about my Dad a lot because he’s the brains of the business.
I love both of my parents my mom and dad I will die 10 times if I have to just for them no question! You see I grew up with both of my parents running a business. My mom and dad tagged team with 2 businesses back home in Subic Bay, Philippines (Where the US base used to be).
I saw my parents how they ran the business and everything was based on core values and ethics. The way they treated their customers they made them feel like they’re part of the family and not just another dollar.
They also treated their employees like family with respect and like they’re part of the team. If you build your business foundation with these values and ethics then your business will be the last one standing and will be rock solid.
Way back in June of 1991 I was very young and cute too (Oh! boy talking about blowing your own horn!) when Mt. Pinatubo erupted and it was the second largest volcanic eruption of the twentieth century that killed 800 people and 100,000 became homeless.
Which climaxed with nine hours of eruption on June 15, 1991 and that day millions of tons of sulfur dioxide was discharged into the atmosphere resulting in a decrease in temperature worldwide over the next few years.
Man! It makes me cry when I remember it was very scary I thought that we were going to die, I’ve never experienced that kind of disaster in my life. It was 9:00 AM and it turned completely pitch black,
I mean darker than night time and the ground shook upside down every 2 minutes (literally I’m serious) and the worst thing I saw was my little sister and little brother scared and I can hear all the neighbor screaming outside.
Then the power went off and there was no communication with the outside world (radio or TV!). I was so shocked and didn’t know what to do. I saw my mom praying and crying at the same time and I asked my Dad, “What are we going to do?”
There was a pause for a moment then he looked at me in the eyes and said, “Son you know I love you so much and everything is gonna be fine and he hugged me very tight then he said, “This is what we’re going to do and we need to do this very quickly” (talking about quick implementation).
He told me to grab a masking tape and to tape all the glass in the living room we had a huge entertainment center and other furniture that was full of glass so I did exactly what my Dad said.
At first I didn’t understand why I needed to tape all the glass but then I realized that the ground was shaking so hard with and earthquake every 2 minutes and if the glass breaks it will be all over the place, so I know my dad was thinking and had a plan already.
This goes along with your business in being able to make a quick decision and having a plan. Then my dad and I moved our huge dining table (solid mahogany) into the living room. I got confused again, why do we need to move it to the living room?
But I just did what he said because I trusted my Dad. While we were busy moving things around I heard in my room it’s making the noise on the roof and it sounded like it was ready to collapse because it was raining ash and sand from the volcano it’s very heavy.
It made it worse when one of my Dads employees broke the news that both of my parents businesses collapsed! These were 3 story buildings that were flat to the ground, but one thing I noticed is that my Dad was very calm. He said, “It’s fine” then he told to the guy to go home with his family.
I really admired my Dad for how he handled everything. Here’s the very scary part when he asked me to bring all the mattress’ out and put them on the top of the table that we moved to living room and told everyone to go underneath the table and he said he will go on the roof and shovel all the sand off so our house won’t collapse,
I said, “Dad I’m going with you” first he said NO! but then he realized he needed my help so we went out with flash lights and ropes then we got on the roof and my dad tied the rope on him and he tied it to me as well.
Besides the strong earthquake there was also a thunderstorm and it was raining sand NOT water. Every time the ground shook stronger and stronger and I could hear my family screaming below us and my Dad and I would hug each other very tight and my Dad keep telling me, “No matter what happens I want you to know I love you so much”…
To make the story short I am alive today and all of my family too. My dad built the business back with no problems and since the business was based on the core values and ethics he got the business up and running in no time and many of the employees helped as well (For Free).
The business continued to grow strong and later on expanded to food, beverages and even a catering business. So the moral of this story is no matter what the circumstance, situation, or storm that could crush your business you should have no problem getting it up and running again because of your core values and ethics.
So when choosing a successful business model for your business you make sure you don’t base it on how strong the business is financially but on the core values and ethics, when you do this you will be the last man standing and sitting pretty!
Just like Zappos.com for instance their business is based on core values and they’re known for excellent customer service and they’re standing tall among their competitors whether in good times or tough times it doesn’t matter and many customers are happy and love Zappos.com including my wife
I was talking to my very good friend Robert Avila whom I’ve known for three years now (Robert is Zappos.com Search Marketing Coordinator also Top Commentator here at AlbertHallado.com) over the phone and he shared with me how great things happen every day at Zappos.com whether it’s customer service, employers and employees relationship and so on…
That’s why they’re growing strong and have made their Billion Dollar sales earlier than they expected and this is as in right now while every big company out there are asking and begging for a bail out.
BTW Robert: if you have any coupons or discounts can you send them to my wife?
So there you have it folks when choosing a business model you make sure you include the core values and ethics and not just the monetary value! I hope you learn something, get an idea and hope this helps! take care and love you guys.
Till Next Time and God Bless You!
